Brisbane in Spring
Every city seems to have it pretty street of boutiques, and if it’s really nice then also lovely cafes and bars to enjoy with friends. In Sydney it’s Oxford Street in Paddington. In Melbourne it’s Chapel Street. And in Brisbane it’s James Street in Fortitude Valley. I love it for all there is to do, the relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, pretty landscaping and wall art, people watching, and many Australian designers boutiques. My picks are Camilla, Zimmerman and Gorman for shopping, The Little Pantry for all day brekkie and tea, and Jocelyn’s Provisions is where I go if I’m craving a really indulgent treat.
It’s also just a nice area to take a walk – from the top end of food and fashion, down past the leafy residential area with a mix of charming old houses mixed with white new ones, and down to the area of New Farm. The bottom end where it turns into Lamington Street in New Farm is of my favourite areas in Brisbane. It’s around here I had my office a few years back. The bar/cafe BitterSuite was one of our hangouts for a drink catchup after work. I’d also spend a little time everyday taking a walk in New Farm Park, or down by the river, and every now and then check out what cultural events were on at the Powerhouse. Whenever I’m in Brisbane I always enjoy spending time around this area, and Spring is the perfect time to enjoy.
